Ixtapa means "The White Place" because of the powdery, white sand beaches. This resort was designed from the ground up with the tourist in mind. Near the center of town, several modern and colonial style malls are interconnected by plazas and garden centers, creating the illusion of a continuous shopping sensation. Included in this wonderland of commerce are several restaurants and bars, nightclubs, and boutiques.

The high-adrenaline crowd can find their kicks along the water's edge or even in the water with world-class opportunities for boating, fishing, deep-sea fishing, sailboarding, parasailing, and just about any type of high action water sport you can think of. There are also fine choices for golfing and tennis.

For the young and young at heart, the city features several places designed especially for children. Magic World is an aquatic-themed recreational park. Delfiniti is a popular spot where visitors can swim and interact with the dolphins. And for the really young, there is Happy Planet, a place full of interactive games for small children. No matter what your age, however, Ixtapa (pronounced eeks-TAH-pah) will reveal something new each time you drop in.
